For the slice, simply do the opposite of what I did on the left-hand page. Here, I’ve created a steeper backswing, which will make my goal easier to attain. My followthrough is different as well (see inset). Notice how, this time, the back of my left hand is more visible in my followthrough? This is the result of my “holding off” the clubface, a move that produces cut spin. In addition to these swing changes, I always make sure to aim the appropriate distance to the left or right of my obstacle. Depending on the amount of curve I’m looking for, I may also set up with the clubface slightly open or closed at address.

Keep the back of your left hand upright after impact to “hold off” the clubface and slice it.
